Arc AAA

First Impressions:   Just like its big brother, the Arc LS, this little light is bursting with quality and craftsmanship.  The Arc AAA has a very solid feel to it for such a little light.  The knurling fells very nice, and makes the AAA very easy to keep a hold of.  The AAA is even more impressive for its size when you see the amount of light it produces.  A Limited Edition version is available.  That has hand selected leds, that are alittle whiter, and better centered in the head of the light.

Fit & Finish:   Every aspect of the Arc AAA’s construction is excellent.  The HA (hard-anodizing) is very consistent and smooth.  The head screws down into the body very smoothly and tightly.  Making a water tight seal against the o-ring.  The lasered on lettering is very clear and detailed.

Functionality:   The Arc AAA makes an excellent keychain light.  Its small size, and build quality, and HA coating make it hold up to being shook with keys in your pocket.  While the head is slightly hard to turn, due to the tight fitting o-ring, it can still be operated with one hand.   It can also be easily held in your mouth, placed on a lanyard around the neck, or even placed behind your ear like a cigarette.

Light Output:   This is by far the brightest keychain light I have ever seen.  The beam is considerably smooth for a 5mm led.  The hotspot is somewhat violet, surrounded by a whiter corona.  Some rings can be seen also.  This is perfectly normal for a 5mm led.  The light produces plenty of light for finding key holes, reading maps, lighting the inside of a car or tent, looking under a car, or even to light a path at night in the woods well enough to not trip.

Size & Weight:   The Arc AAA is very light weight due to being made of high grade aluminum.  At 2.75 inches, the light is not alot larger than the AAA battery that powers it.  You don’t notice it at all in you pocket, and you barely notice it when wore around you neck.

Water Resistance:   The Arc AAA is rated for 50 feet.  I have not been able to test this, but I would completely trust this light in heavy rain, and being dropped in puddles.  I have heard of many people accidentally putting these lights through the washer AND dryer, with absolutely no problems.

Runtime:   The Arc AAA is rated for 5 hours of good light output, followed by 4 to 5 hours a diminishing light after that.

Pros:   By far the best keychain size light I have seen.  Excellent design and build quality.  Water Resistant.  Good light output for its size.  Good runtime.  HA coated.  Backed by a great company.

Cons:   Light can be slightly violet, with rings.  Again, normal for 5mm led’s.  At a cost of $20, $40 for the Limited Edition version, this light can be a bit pricey for a keychain light.  Worth it if you ask me though.

Conclusion:  You just can’t get a better keychain size light.  The Arc AAA is very impressive for its size.  Uses cheap, easy to find AAA batteries, with good runtime.  Makes a great backup light for EDC (Every Day Carry).
