Benchmade Nimravus 140HS

First Impressions:  WOW !   I did a good bit of research before ordering this knife, so I knew it was a very well made functional knife.  As is everything Benchmade makes.  But, when I got it, it totally exceeded my expectations.  It feels great in my hand, and is just the right size.  I wanted a good fixed blade knife that would be used for a variety of things.  I’m not one for small knives, and I was worried that I would think this one was too small.  But its just right, it is very maneuverable, yet large enough […]

X990 35W HID SpotLight

Description: X990 35W HID 6MCP Rechargeable SpotlightFirst Impressions: From the photos I was seeing on the net, I was alittle worked about the build quality of the X990. It looks like a light that you would buy at a hardware store that uses drill battery packs. Giving the light a somewhat “cheap” appearance. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the X990s provided carry case. The light is alittle on the large side, but as soon as you hold it in your hands you realize its construction is better than something found in your average hardware store. The body and […]

Pila GL3

Description: Incandescent Runs on 3×123, 2xPila 150s, or 2xPila 150a Cells 130 Lumen Output LED TailcapFirst Impressions: The GL3 seems very well built, and ready for punishment. The knurling is just slightly less aggressive than Surefires, and feels good and sturdy in your hand. The tailcap is a good bit larger diameter than the body of the light, making it easy to keep a grip on. The light is alittle heavier than I would like. It reminds alot of the Pelican M6, in its overall shape and weight. There are many places on the head and tailcap that have grooves, […]

Princeton Tec – Tec 40

First Impressions:   I found this light to be a very nice size and shape.  It fits nicely into your hand, and the rubberized head is easy to grip, even when wet.  The body has a soft slightly bead blasted feel to it.  I also like how the supplied wrist lanyard worked.  Then I turned it on… WOW this thing is Bright!   It greatly out performs a 2D Mag Light.  A killer light for its size and weight.    Fit & Finish:   The Tec40 is very well made.  The rubberized head fits very tightly over the bodies o-ring.  The edges left […]

It has a more bead blasted rough finish to it, instead of a smooth somewhat glossy […]

LED Color Temps/Tints ~ “White” “Neutral” “Warm”

This review will discuss the different LED Tints or Color Temps, and how they effect a lights performance. Including Color Retention, Perceived Brightness, and Preferred Applications. 4Sevens Quark Mini 123 lights were used for this test.     One of the first things that someone notices when they try out an LED light, is how much “whiter” the light is compared to a typical incandescent light bulb. For the most part, people like the white color temp, and never want to go back to those orange colored incandescent again, me included. But, not all LEDs are created equal. There are […]
