Indium

Description:
Unique Round Disc Shape
6 – 5mm LEDs
High, Low, and Strobe modes
Rechargeable Lithium Cell via USB port
Conductivity Sensing Touch Switch

First Impressions:
The Indium is definitely a Unique light being shaped much like a round edged hockey puck.
It was a very different experience using it, and takes some getting used to.
The first thing I did after grabbing the Indium from its box, was blind myself. I accidentally touched the switch, which is very easy to. The light would be alot easier to pickup if it was stored facing down, that way your palm wont press against the switch while grapping it.
After getting used to the Indiums shape, I found it wasnt as awkward in my hand as I thought it would. It is large enough to allow you to get a nice grip, with your finger tips wrapping around to the front of it a good bit before covering any of the leds.
There is a groove around the outside of the light which is used to tire a lanyard around, this helps get a grip on the Induim.

Size/Weight:
The Indium is 2.5″ in diameter, and barely over 1″ thick.
It feels firm in your hand, and is slightly heavier than it looks. Even though it is made of aluminum, and hollow, it feels very hefty and solid.

Grip/Handling:
This is where the Indium is very different from any other light you have handled.
Its unique round shape makes you hold it differently than you would a conventional light.
You hold it much like you would the lid of a jar.
This takes some getting used to, and can have limitations. For example, it is not possible to hold the Indium in your mouth, or under your arm.
The Indium is actually best suited as a desk or nightstand light. Since you can lay it down, facing up toward the ceiling. The touch switch is easy to activate by simply tapping the center of the light where the 2 sensing terminals are.

Build Quality:
The indium has a very nice fit and finish. The Hard Anodizing is very even with uniform color.
There are no rough or sharp edges. The leds are recessed just enough to protect them, while still allowing a wide beam. The Indium is made of two halves that screw together. The seam is very tight and looks good, however there is no o-ring to seal the light. So I imagine it is only splash proof, and not to be submerged at all.

Features:
The main feature of the Indium, besides its shape and switch, are its 3 modes of operation.
High, Low, and Strobe
Personally, I think low mode could be alot lower, there wasnt much of a difference between High and Low.
The strobe flashes very bright, and will definitely get your attention.

Output:
I measured 96 Peak Lux from the Indium.
Using 6 5mm leds makes the Indium have a flood beam, so the lux reading cant be expected to be very high.
There is a “hotspot” is you will, that is about a foot in diameter at a distance of 3 feet. Which faded out into a very wide spill light.
The Indiums output was very white, especially for a 5mm led light.

Runtime:
4 Hours on High
8 Hours on Low
Charge time is 4 hours for full charge.

Heat Issues:
I noticed only the slightest warming of the light while leaving it on unattended.

Pros:
Brighter and whiter than most 6 – 5mm LED lights.
Good fit and finish
Unique design
Rechargeable Lithium battery

Cons:
Switch is very sensitive, easily accidentally turns on if it contacts any metal or wet substance.
Battery must be unsoldered for replacement
Only rechargeable by USB cable
Awkward to hold compared to a conventional shaped light.

Conclusion:
The Indium is a very well made light, with a nice fit and finish.
The light output is rather good for a 5mm led light.
But I find that the lights unique shape, and touch sensitive switch make it very hard to use in any conventional manor.
The switch will activate if any conductive material comes in contact with it. So you cant have any metal objects in your pocket with the Indium. I also found it alittle hard to pick up the Indium without accidentally turning it on.
The Indium is best used as a desk or night stand light. It would also work rather well as a headlamp if a strap and mount were made for it.
Overall, its a nice light, but its shape and switch make it rather hard to use.
